Rules and Guidelines
« on: July 12, 2007, 09:52:56 PM »
Rules

  • The Global Rules are rules which concern any member developer of Radakan at all times.

  • The Forumrules are, as the name so flagrantly describes, rules concerning this forum. But, everything that is written elsewhere on this website, has to follow the Forumrules accordinly.

  • The Guidelines are basically just various tasks which we would like to encourage all members to perform. Though, by completely ignoring all Guidelines, it can count as bad behaviour, but that's up to the staff to decide.

Global Rules

The first three listed rules, are The Three Ground Rules. These rules are in effect wherever there is a connection to Radakan. Any violation of these rules will result in a ban (from the forum), and a permanent ban (from both the forum and the clan) if it should be repeated.

  • Sex, Drugs, Racism and Nazism
It is completely forbidden to post/submit/write things which are related to Porn, Drugs, Racism and Nazism. This includes avatar images and signatures.

  • Illegal Activities
We don't wanna hear any talk about how to make a bomb or what kinds of drugs are the best. It is of course allowed to joke a little bit about these things, but make sure it's very clear that it is a completely harmless discussion. Also, uploading, posting, or linking of any material in violation of any U.S. or any state regulation is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: copyrighted material, material legally judged to be threatening or obscene, or material protected by trade secret.

  • Being civil
No personal attacks/offensive language whether in posts, signatures or imagery. Anything the admins deem derogatory towards another user will be censored and/or deleted and you will be warned.
If you feel the need to flame someone, please do it in private. Do not feel compelled to defend your honor in public. Also, if you have a problem with a person, either PM a moderator or administrator with your concern and they will help you out.

  • Spam
Do not post irrelevant or inappropriate messages or topics. Spamming of smileys or other pictures can also be very annoying.

  • Ban-evading
When banned, it is not allowed to create a new account.*

  • Advertising and linking
Providing links or doing advertising of some kind is accepted as long as it doesn't violate any other rules listed here.

Forum Rules

  • Double Posting & Bumping
Replying to your own thread is known as "double posting." use the edit button to make additional content in your post.
You can, however, reply to your own post in order to return ("bump") the thread to the top of the list as long as there has been no reply in over 48 hours, and the thread is less than 1 week old. This should never be done without good reason though, and replying to yourself twice should be avoided. If you would like to post extra information please edit your original post.
Note: Exceptions can be made for posts that are being updated, so that you can bump the thread while also showing the updated in the new reply. It will be up to the moderator of the forum to decide wether the poster should be allowed to keep on multi-posting or not.

  • Hijacking threads
If you have a different problem than the one discussed in the thread, post a new thread or search for an existing threads dealing with your problems. Don't change the topic of someone else's thread into a discussion about your problem.

  • Private conversation
Do not make topics directed to just one person if it's a private matter. An exception is the General Discussion forum, but don't overdo it. Othwerwise, any posts labelled "To xxxxx" are not allowed. If you have a specific question for a person, PM him, send him an email, or contact him some other way. Please refrain from making topics just to get in touch with someone. Of course, replying to a person in topics is allowed.
"Ex:- Sadr says: Yes, it's a very nice description (...)
btw John, is your guide for the Juggler's Challence coming out soon?
    - John says: Thank you for your reply. And yes, I'm finishing the guide aws actually =) expect to see it very soon."
What is not allowed, is making a topic saying something like "meet me at the supermarket tomorrow eh Johnny?".

  • Avatars and signatures
Mainly, the avatars and signatures must follow The Three Ground Rules. The staff hold the right to remove any user's avatar at any time if they feel it is inappropriate also in ways besides the terms of the rules stated here.

Guidelines

Posting in general

  • In the name of all that is good, if you're looking for a constructive discussion, you are the one who has to take the initiative, always.

  • Try to always read through your post before submitting it. Is it typed in a way that is easy to understand? Are terms that are not known to all defined? Is it riddled with typos?

  • Describing the presented content/issue poorly will give your thread a very bad start, and might lead it off-topic before you get the chance to edit it. Either wait untill you have a finished thread, or leave a note saying that the thread is still in progress.

  • Using different kinds of styling (mainly colors and sizes) can be a good way to freshen up your post as long as the text is readable and doesn't get cluttered (i.e. not too bright, dark, small, large, or different colors everywhere).

Asking questions / requesting assistance & vice versa

  • When you have a question, first do the following: Check out any FAQ or help-file that might give you the answer without asking it. If you can't find anything then do a quick search on the forum to see if someone has asked a similar question. If this question has not been answered though, you can of course ask the question again.

  • Are you communicating what you want explained, or what you need help understanding? We are not psychic, we need you to explain what you mean!

  • Write out as many details as you can about the effect you want to achieve or the problem you are having. Write down every detail! Tell people what you have tried to do to obtain the desired effect, or solve the current issue. You don't always need to post a screen shot, a trigger, or snippet of code. But, when you really think it is where the issue lays, and it can better communicate what you want to do / what's wrong then words can, then please do post it.

  • Post what you have tried relating to previous suggestions or information people have given you. Nothing is more annoying then posting a nice example or answer to the response of

Well, it all seems good, but I honestly can't be assed to read that. It's all common sense anyway. And seeing as we're a small community (for now, hopefully:P), I don't think there's much demand for it.

Anyway, that's my opinion,
Ben

Yup you're right. We all know how to behave, so there's no problem there :) What I thought people might find interesting though is some of those posting-guidelines. I guess there's no harm in leaving it here, but there's no need to make any official announcements about it or anything.
