Quest Chain: Acquiring a Pass

Introduction
When the player goes to the Tollbooth to get to the Middle Levels, the guards will say that they cannot accept bribes at this time and only citizens with passes may enter or leave. They say that there is a thief causing chaos in the lower levels and that they are trying to isolate the thief to the lower levels so that they can catch him. They tell you that you must have a pass to get through. If you talk to certain NPCs about how to get a pass, they will tell you about Selienne. She will also whisper to you if you pass her

News about the Quest

• If you talk to Selienne, you can immediately acquire the quest. She beckons to you as you pass the alley she is in
• When you talk the guards, they will refuse bribes as they need to catch the thief and the supervisor has insisted that only those with a proper Citizen's pass may get through in order to detain the thief. They will tell you that an authentic pass can be acquired from a certain Harpy and for a small bribe they will tell you her location
• If you talk to certain merchants or corrupt sociable individuals and inquire about a pass, they will tell you where you can find her. They will also tell you that they don't trust her

How to Acquire this Quest
Speak to Selienne about acquiring a pass. She will offer to sell you the pass for 20g (Or a similar equivalent). There are three options.

• You pay the 20g and recieve "Quest 4A: Buying a Pass". You may do this at any time during the quest chain.
• You tell her you cannot afford it. She offers you a job to earn the money. You receive "Quest 1A: A Small Favour"
• You leave and speak to an upright guard or the supervisor and inform them that she is selling passes and could aid the thief. You receive "Epilogue B: Harpy's Grudge". You may do this at any time during the quest chain.

How to Acquire this Quest:
When you talk to Selienne she will offer you sell you an illegal pass for 20g (Or an equivalent). If you cannot afford to pay this and you tell her you are willing to work to earn it, she will tell you that she needs just one small favour and you will receive the quest.

Description:
Selienne wants a small favour in exchange for the pass. She tells you that a man named Deacon owes her some money but every time she, or one of her colleagues, approaches him, he runs and hides. She says that he owes her 10 gold and, while the sum isn't much to her, she will not tolerate people refusing to pay their debts. It's up to you to deal with him in any way possible and get the money. Once you deliver the money to her, she will talk business.

Selienne will tell you that if she knew Deacon's location, she wouldn't need you so its up to you to track his location. You can ask any sociable person where his house is and they will tell you. If you ask someone who knows Selienne why she couldn't do it herself, they will say that she's wanted in the Lower Levels and while the guards can pretend that they don't know where she is, if she was seen in public they would have to arrest her. Once you find out where his house is, you can head there immediately. If you already know where it is, then you don't have to ask.

Once you arrive at Deacon's house, you can knock or barge straight in. He will not react to a knock so eventually you have to barge in. You will find him hurriedly searching through items on his desk regardless of the time of day (If you came here before you received the quest, he would not be here). When you come near him, a dialogue initiates and he will back off and shout that he already gave Thommel his share. You can play along and extort a diamond from him (If you intimidate him well). Once you mention that you are from Selienne, he will change his options. He will give you 5g and tell you that its all that he has and beg for his life. You can let him go, kill him, beat him up or intimidate him further. If you try to kill him, he will give you 6g and flee and if you beat him up, he will pay you the remaining 5g. Intimidation will only make him lie. Once you are done with him, he will flee from the house.

It does not matter what you choose or even if you didn't find him, as long as you bring 10g to Selienne she will be happy even if you lie. If you lie and say that you don't have the money, she will refuse to deal with you until you do. Once you deal with her, you can keep it all (In which case she will refuse you the pass until you pay up), pay her half and keep half (In which case she tells you that you still need another 15g for the pass) or you can give it all. If you give it all, she tells you've done well. If you ask for the pass, she will say that you've only done one small favour, worth roughly 5g and you need to earn another 15g before you can get the pass. She offers to keep the 5g that you've earned in the meanwhile but you can demand that she gives it to you. Either way, the quest will end with you not recieving the pass and having to earn another 15g. The quest is completed once you end this dialogue.

You can now ask her if she has more work to do, denounce her to the guards or buy the pass for 20g.

Quest Number: 2A: An Unwelcome Gift

Prerequisites
Completion of "Acquiring a Pass - 1A: A Small Favour"

How to Acquire this Quest:
After completing "A Small Favour" you will have either 5g or 5g credit with Selienne. She will say that 5g worth of work isn't enough to buy the pass which she's selling for 20g. You can buy the pass for 20g (Which leads you to Quest 4A), you can denounce her to the guards (Which leads you to Epilogue B) or you can ask her if she has more work for you. She says that if you do another tiny favour for her, it will bring you one step closer to getting the pass. If you accept her offer,  you receive the quest.

Description:
After you accept the quest, Selienne will give a box and tell you NOT to open it. She claims its a gift and she wants you to give it to Romel who can be found in the Inn. She says that no matter what his reaction, you MUST deliver the gift to him and tell him that its from her. She tells you if you kill Romel, the deal is off and that if he refuses the gift, you must convince him to accept it. You can try and look into the box but its locked and you don't have the key.

You can ask various NPCs about Romel and they will tell you that he's a dangerous man that you should avoid. They say that he's the twin brother of a man named Thommel who deals in goods stolen from the mines. They tell you that he can be found in the corner of the inn, but it would be a waste of time trying to chat with him. You can head over to the Inn where you will find Romel in a corner with two dangerous looking Groggs sitting near him. If you try to talk to him, he will be rude and if you insist on talking to him, he will set his Groggs on you. If you mention Selienne, then he will become troubled and ask what she has to do with anything. When you offer him the box, he will refuse to take it and say that he doesn't want anything from that 'treacherous harpy bitch'. You can taunt and insult him as much as you want and he will do nothing. Eventually after you insist he takes it, he will get up and tell you that he has important business and has to leave immediately. You can let him go, in which case he will go to Thommel's house (Which is locked) and wait outside. Or you can confront him and insist that he takes it. Once you threaten to tell Selienne, he will make you a deal. He will pay you 6g to tell Selienne that you gave him the box and leave him alone. If you accept his offer, you can now drop the box as though it were a normal item and you receive his 6g. He tells you that he will not forget this. You can ask what's so bad about the box but he will say that you don't want to know. If you intimidate and threaten him enough the Groggs will ask if they should kill you. Romel will say that it isn't necessary and eventually he will accept the box but warn you that you have made an enemy of both him and Thommel.

You can head back to Selienne and tell her that you gave him the box, that you lost the box or that you couldn't give it to him. If you tell her that you gave him the box and you're lying, she will tell you that she isn't stupid and she knows you didn't give it to him. If you couldn't give it to him, she will tell you that you are useless and that she won't reward you until you complete your task. If you tell her that you lost it, she will insult you and tell you that you don't deserve a reward. If you had any credit with her, you will lose it. You may still access the following quest if you take this option. If you deliver it to him, she will tell you that you've done well and earned another 5g worth of credit. You can insist on receiving the 5g if which case she will give it to you. If you ask her what was in the box, she will tell you that you will find out soon enough. The quest is completed once this dialogue ends.

How to Acquire this Quest:
After you complete "An Unwelcome Gift" you can now talk to Selienne about doing one last job for her. If you sided with her on the last quest, she will say that after this, you will have earned enough money to buy the pass. If you sided against her on the last quest, she will say that this is an opportunity to redeem yourself. You can still denounce her to the guards or use your own money to buy the pass. Once you accept this last job, you receive the quest.

Description:
After accepting the quest, Selienne will tell you that she has a bit of trouble with a man named Thommel. You can ask her about Thommel and she will say that he's a wannabe gang leader who steals from the mines. He likes to think that he's a big time criminal but the truth is that he's so insignificant that the Black Hand doesn't even bother to eliminate him or recruit him. She tells you that unfortunately, Thommel is an arrogant bastard and likes to cause trouble for the other free criminals in the lower levels. She says that she wants you to deliver another one of these special boxes, except this time, to Thommel. She says that his house is locked 24/7 and only his brother Romel knows who has the keys. She stresses the importance of delivering the box in person and says that you will be rewarded greatly if you can get it to Thommel.

If you head over to Thommel's house, it is locked and if you ask around, some people will say that his brother Romel should know. He can be found at the Inn. You can find Romel at the Inn, in the same place you last found him in. If you sided with Romel in the last quest, he will be willing to help you but if you sided against him, he will threaten to kill you if you don't leave him be. If he is against you and you keep messing with him, he will set his Groggs on you. He will outright refuse to help you in anyway unless you earn his trust by doing a side quest he offers: "Deacon's Debt". If you stole the diamond from Deacon in the first quest he will not offer this quest to you and you can persuade him that you want to sell it to Thommel. After he accepts your offer, he will tell you to meet him outside Thommel's house in three hours and he will leave the Inn.
      If he is friends with you, he will say that since you did him a favour, he will do you a favour and organise you a meeting with Thommel. He says that it isn't his business what you want to discuss with the man, but it would help if you had something of value to offer his brother. He will offer you the quest: "Deacon's Debt" saying that it would make Thommel willing to help you. If you stole the diamond from Deacon in the first quest, he will not offer the quest. After you show him the diamond, he tells you to meet him outside Thommel's house in three hours and leaves the Inn. You may also tell him that your business cannot wait and that you need to see Thommel immediately. In this case, he will tell you to be at Thommel's house in three hours regardless of whether or not you have the diamond.

Romel will come outside of Thommel's house in three hours and he will wait there for a total of two hours. If you don't pitch up, he will return to the Inn and be angry with you for wasting his time. Once you get permission to enter Thommel's house, Romel will wait outside and you can go inn. You will see Thommel sitting on a chair at a desk with two Groggs guarding him. He will say that he's heard about you and it's a pleasure to meet you. He says that he's heard you've been working for Selienne and if you ever want a real job, he might have some work for a person of your talents. He also warns you that trusting her is a mistake, as she's nothing but a vicious backstabber. If you have the diamond, you can bargain with him and sell it for 5g - 20g.
       Once you are done with the small stuff, you can go on to business and offer him the box. He tells you that, unlike his brother, he isn't a coward and he has a good guess of what's inside. The game swaps to a cutscene and zooms in on the box. Thommel pulls out a key and opens it. Inside is an exotic red feather. The game swaps out of the cutscene and Thommel swears, saying that he has no idea how that bitch could possibly have ties with the Crimson Shadow Order. If you ask him about the Crimson Shadow Order he will say that he knows barely anything about them, but a Red Feather is bad. The Order breeds a rare bird which gives off brilliant red feathers. If you receive one, it has to be from them. It serves as a warning, desist or die. You know the box is yours if you find the key to it next to your pillow when you wake up. He says that the only way to get out of it is to kill the one who issued the feather and Selienne was stupid enough to reveal herself. He says that your business with him is done, but his offer to hire you still stands.

You can now head back to Selienne and tell her that the box is delivered. Since Thommel will always accept the box, there is only one possible outcome to the quest. Selienne will be happy and add 10g to your credit (You can insist that she give you the actual money). If you ask her about the Crimson Shadow Order, she will say that its none of your business. She will remark that you've earned enough money from her to buy the pass and she doesn't have any more work for you anyway. The quest is completed once the dialogue ends.

Quest Number: 4A: Buying a Pass

20g or 20g credit Selienne or a combination of the two

How to Acquire this Quest:
Although this is technically Quest 4A in the chain, it can be taken at any time during the chain. All you have to do is tell her that you want to buy the pass. She will say that it costs 20g and if you pay her, you will receive the quest. You will still be able to complete Quest 1A, 2A and 3A if you have them, but upon completion of this quest, they will all be abandoned.

Description:
This is an extremely short quest and it doesn't involve much. After you pay the gold, Selienne will tell you that she just has to deliver the gold to her contact and by tomorrow she should be able to give you the pass. If you kick up a fuss and demand that the pass and the gold be exchanged at the same time, she will say that it's her policy to never return money and that her contact will demand the money first. You cannot persuade her otherwise so all you can do is wait until the next day to receive your pass.

After one day of waiting (Not 24 hours, any time the following day but it has to be a minimum of 8 hours waiting), you can now talk to Selienne about the pass. She will tell you that there is was slight complication. While you paid 20g for the pass, someone paid her contact 30g so they sold it to him instead. They only had one pass and they might only be able to get another one in a month or twos time. The person they sold it to, is a man named Froid. You can find him at the inn and maybe you could convince him to sell it to you or something. Her policy is that she will never return money, so you're going to have to wait another month if you want your pass. You can complain as much as you want but she will merely say that you need to find Froid if you want to get a pass. Once the dialogue ends, the quest is completed and you will automatically receive "Epilogue A: Finding Froid".

You can now denounce her the guards (Which you probably will since she conned you) or you can find Froid. Or you can do both.

How to Acquire this Quest:
After completing "4A: Buying a Pass" and being conned by Selienne, she will tell you that her supplier sold the pass to a man named Froid who is staying at the Inn. You will automatically receive this quest after the dialogue.

Description
After heading over the inn and asking the innkeeper where you can find Froid, he will say that Froid is out most the day but he returns at night to eat, drink and sleep so you should find him somewhere in the inn at night. Once you locate him you can tell him your story and that you want the pass that Selienne's contact sold him. He will tell you that he got it directly from her, not from her contacts (Making you suspect that she conned you) but he says that his need isn't so much that he wouldn't be willing to part with it.
      He will say that since he's practically done with it, and he bought it for 30g, he will sell it to you for 20g. You can persuade him to lower the price and make him desperate. If you try and leave the conversation and say its too expensive, he will drop as low as 5g. You could intimidate him as well, but he won't drop lower than 5g. If you work for Thommel, you can tell him that he either gives you the pass, or you will get Thommel to kill him (In which case he will give it to you). You could also offer to trade a diamond for it (If you have one). If you ask him why he's so desperate to get rid of it, he will say that he has no further use for it. If you threaten to kill him, he will give it to you and reveal no more.

Once you have the pass, you can go to the guards by the stairs and try and get through. They will tell you that you have a fake pass and if you don't tell them where you got it from, they will throw you in jail. They say that buying an illegal pass is all fine and well, but Moldan, corrupt as it is, does not take fake passes lightly and you've committed a serious offence. You can either denounce Selienne (Which takes you to Epilogue B) or make an excuse or remain silent. If you do not denounce Selienne, the guard will say: "If this wasn't a demo I would throw in you jail. You aren't getting through this gate, but feel free to come back if you change your mind about your supplier."

The quest is completed once the dialogue ends. You can sell the fake pass to someone various NPCs ranging from 5g to 30g depending on who you sell it to and how well you barter.

How to Acquire this Quest:
Automatically received after completing the once off mini quest "Farewell to Fake Passes". To get this quest, simply talk to the guards and tell them that you know the whereabouts of the wanted criminal Selienne the Harpy.  Alternatively, complete "Epilogue A: Find Froid" and you will automatically receive this quest.

Description:
After talking to the guards and telling them that you will help them catch Selienne, they will tell you that there's a 15g reward in it and all you need to do, is lead them to her. When you are ready, tell them to follow you and take them to her. A cutscene ensues and they will arrest her. As she is taken away she will say: "Do you think you can get away with betraying me? This is Moldan; I won't be in prison forever. And when I get out, I'm going to kill you." You will now receive "Epilogue B: Harpy's Grudge".

Three days later, the next time you sleep a cutscene ensues showing Selienne creeping up on you with a knife while you're sleeping. You will suddenly wake up and roll out of the way and she will stab the pillow. A Grogg will burst into the room and hit her with a giant axe, killing her. He will give you a letter, a diamond, say goodbye and then leave the room. You can search Selienne's corpse and you will find a feather and red dye on her corpse (Making you realise that she was faking the bloody feathers and that she doesn't really have any ties to the Crimson Shadow Order). You can take the feather and dye to Thommel and he will pay you 10g for the information.

The quest is completed after the cutscene ends
