Quest Chain: The Madman
« on: May 11, 2008, 06:18:56 PM »
Note: Certain things in this quest will probably not be included in the demo such as the option to kill some of the NPCs, but I included them anyways. Also, the dialogue tree can be pretty confusing... So if there is anything I can do to make it easier to understand, just tell me.

Quest: The Madman

1A. Speak with Innkeeper Rahl
Innkeeper Rahl is a plump man who is known to be quite sociable and likeable. He speaks and jokes with all of his customers. You can find him in the Miner's Inn in the lower levels of Moldan. He does not know you at the beginning of the game, but being an Innkeeper, he will still speak with you.

When you talk to him, you have many options such as ask for a drink, etc. Here is example dialogue:

You:
Option 1: I would like a drink, please.
Option 2: Hello, sir.
Option 3: This Inn is a dump.

So I select Option 2 and the Innkeeper responds.
"Hello, good sir. And who, may I ask, do I have the pleasure of addressing?"

Option 1: My name is deathknight2005. <--- This is what I pick.
Option 2: I would prefer to remain anonymous.

"Nice to meet you, deathknight2005. Would you like a drink?"

Option 1: No thanks, I am looking for a room.
Option 2: Yes please.
Option 3: No, but I have heard that you know all of the rumours and events of Moldan. <--- I pick this.

"I am known to be a free-speaker. You seem like a fine fellow to me, what did you want to ask me about?"

Option 1: Nothing in particular, just looking for the latest gossip in the city <-- That is what I pick
(Other options are available when you find something in the city that you want to ask for in particular)
"Well sure, I'll give you a few tidbits, I suppose. You know about the mines, I suppose... Hmm... Well, there is an interesting fellow living in the alleys 'round here. That's 'bout the most interesting news I've got."

Option 1: What man is that? <-- I pick this
Option 2: I've already seen the man.
Option 3: I am not interested in your news, then.

"A guy named Dayton Hart, they say. Now he is nothing more than a mad vagabond. He used to be nobility, you know, but that was long ago. Anyways, he's been slinking around in the alleys. The crook even stole one of my most expensive wine bottles!"

Option 1: Interesting... I don't believe I have ever seen him.
Option 2: Well that was useless information.

I select 'Goodbye,' which is almost always an option.

This leads to several other parts in the quest that I will add later. You can go and find Dayton in the Alley, which is also a way to start the quest without even speaking with the Innkeeper, but there are other options.

1B/2A. Find Dayton in Alley
You can find Dayton in an alley near the Inn. When you enter the alley he is sleeping at the very end. You can wake him up without being violent by talking, and you can wake him up by stepping on him. If you step on him, he will wake up and go straight to his 'being stepped on' dialogue. Below are the different things you can do. Some will end the quest (or nearly end the quest) and others will lead you further in the quest.

Speaking with Dayton:
Dialogue Tree:

After being stepped on:
   --> "What is your problem? Just go away!"
Options 1:
Option 1: Wake up!
   --> "Hey! Who's that? W-w-what d'you want? Go away!"

Option 2: (gently tap him awake) Hello?
   --> "Hmmm... What is... Ah! What!? Go away!"

All Options lead to Options 2.

Options 2:
Option 1: I am not here to hurt you. Do not be frightened.
   --> "W-what do you want?"
   -->Options 2A:
   {
   Option 1 (Only an option after speaking with the Innkeeper): Well... Actually, there is one thing.
                I know that you have a bottle of wine that belongs to someone else. I just wanted to ask you to
                return it to the Innkeeper.
   --> "Why should I return it? I stole it and so it is rightfully mine!"
   --->Options 2B:
   {
   Option 1: Because it is the right thing to do.
   --> "That hasn't convinced me before... But, I suppose there is one thing that you could do for me and maybe I will consider giving you the bottle. My wife, Rosalia, came to me last night and told me that her sister still had something that she desires: her rose that I gave her when we first met. She greatly desires this rose... Now leave me!

   Option 2: Just return it or I will make sure you never steal anything again!
   -->Leads to response for Options 2A, Option 2.
   }

   Option 2 (Only available after speaking with the Innkeeper): Give me the bottle of wine you stole!
   --> "May Oon strike you and your black heart down!"
   --->Options 2C:
   {
   Option 1: Are you crazy? Oon can't strike me down! He is dead and has always been dead!
      --> "Oon has more power than you know! Leave me alone!"
      Dayton is angry and will now only tell you to leave him alone unless you give him another bottle of wine (which he likes) or his wife's rose.

   Option 2(Option only available after speaking with Innkeeper): I am sorry... Please, I was being rash. I would greatly appreciate it if you gave me the wine bottle you... Came into possession of.
   --> Leads up to the response for Option 1 of the Options 2A group.

   Option 3: May Oon strike you down!
      -->"You dare threaten me!"
      Dayton attacks you (will not be able to be included in the demo).
   }

   Option 3: I just want you to leave.
      -->"I am not leaving and you cannot make me!"
      Dayton is angry and will now only tell you to leave him alone unless you give him another bottle of wine (which he likes) or his wife's rose.

   Option 3: Nothing now!
   --> "Then leave me alone!"
   Dayton will now only tell you to leave him alone, unless you give him another bottle of wine (he likes wine) or his wife's rose.
   }

Option 2: Leave the city you scum.
   -->"I am not leaving and you cannot make me!"
   Dayton is angry and will now only tell you to leave him alone unless you give him another bottle of wine (which he likes) or his wife's rose.

Killing Dayton (Probably only in Full Version):
You have the option to try and kill Dayton. He will attack you too, but he cannot die; however, you can still take the wine from him. If he is near death, he will flee.  Also, certain NPCs such as the Innkeeper will be happy that you eliminated Dayton while some, such as Rosalia's sister, will be angry at you.

Stealing from Dayton (Probably only in Full Version):
You can steal from Dayton while he is alive too, but it will make him very angry at you. There is a large chance that the stealing will not be successful too, and also the chance that there may be another witness. If so, Dayton will be angry at you and probably unwilling to give you the Wine Bottle or even speak with you. If that happens, the best bet is to either kill Dayton or find out about Rosalia's rose another way and return it to him so that he will like you more once again.

2B. Tricking Rahl
This can be an ending, if you do it right. You can trick Rahl by buying another bottle of wine and giving it to him, or even giving him another liquid that looks like wine. However, there is a large chance that the Innkeeper Rahl will know that you tricked him and he will be angry at you. For instance, since you do not know what type of wine it is (or the colour of the wine, such as red or white), if it is completely different then Rahl will know that you are tricking him (for instance, if you bring him a bottle of white wine and the wine Rahl wants is red). This can be a proper ending that will make Rahl like you and possibly even reward you if you manage to trick him successfully.

3. Rosalia's Sister
You must find Rosalia's Sister, Ceanna. You can find her by speaking with NPCs around Moldan. The guards will not care or tell you where she is regardless of how you ask but the poorer NPCs and possibly Rahl will most likely tell you, especially if you know that particular NPC well. As an alternative, you could also explore Moldan to find it. Once you find Rosalia's Sister's house, you can start searching for the rose. The house is larger than most houses on the lower levels and it has a basement (which is virtually unseen in the lower levels). The rose is in a drawer in the basement. You can try to steal it by sneaking down there, but that is difficult because if Rosalia's sister, her husband, Oliver, or her son, Wyllick, sees or hears you, they will either attack you or throw you out. Furthermore, the door to the basement is locked so you would first need to find the key. You can also attempt to persuade Rosalia into giving you the rose, but that is difficult because she doesn't want to part with it and she doesn't like Dayton so she will throw you out if you mention him. Also, you cannot just burst into her house and start talking with her or she will be angry. You must knock at the door or you will mess up at the very beginning.

3A. Breaking In
To break in, there are many things you must do. First of all, you must find the key to the basement. Rosalia's sister, Ceanna, keeps a key at all times, as does her husband and son. There is also a spare key hidden in a shrub by the front of the house that opens both the front door and basement door. You can either find this spare key or persuade either Ceanna, her husband or her son into letting you down to the basement. Of course, you could also steal the key from one of them.

After you have found the key, you can either open the front door or break it down (high chances of being seen). Once inside, you can be stealthy and sneak around Ceanna and her husband (her son is usually outside). There is a chance that one of them might see you or hear you if you come too close. It is smart to hide behind furniture on the way to the stairwell and avoid their gaze if they turn around. You could also try to kill one or both of them so that they cannot stop you, but there is a chance that they will overpower you or alert someone else in the town.

If you go downstairs, you can search through the drawers until you find the rose. Of course, Ceanna may hear you if you trash too many things down there and if she catches you stealing, that may cause a problem. Once you have the rose, you must sneak out again without being caught or all three members of the family may attack you.

Reputation:
-If you kill Ceanna or her husband or son, you will be hated by the other living family members. If they alert other NPCs, you may be hated by many NPCs in the lower levels, but they may not find out about the murder. Dayton, however, will know about the murder because he knows you were the last one to see her, and he will hate you. If the NPCs find out about your deed, you will be disliked or feared by other NPCs who do not know Ceanna very well in Moldan.

-If you steal from Ceanna and she catches you, you will not be as trusted with her, her family and her friends. Also, there will be no way to persuade her into giving you the rose and you will have to break in her house again.

-If you trespass and she [or her family members] see you, she will be suspicious of you and less likely to be persuaded.

-If you persuade Ceanna or her family honestly and you are not caught stealing anything, you will gain some trust with her.

Rewards:
-Rosalia's Rose
-Items stolen from the house

3B. Finding a Fake
Alternatively, you can search for a rose you can pluck or buy and give that to Dayton. This can work if you find the right type of rose. He will know if it is a completely different rose. You can find out the type of rose by speaking with Ceanna and asking her about it. You could also guess and bring Dayton any rose, but it is dangerous because it will infuriate him if it is not her rose (or does not look like hers) and will also lower his trust in you greatly.

4. Returning the Rose
When you go to find Dayton to give him the rose, you will find that he has moved. If you ask around, you will hear that he has headed to the commoner's road. When you find him there, he tells you that you can have the wine bottle and that he is going to head back to his 'home' [the cavern]. This is the last time you see him in the demo because you cannot get to the upper levels. And actually, Dayton has a secret path that leads up to his cave and from there you can reach the middle levels of Moldan (a path that is unavailable in the demo but is one of the ways to get up without a pass. To use the path, you must complete a quest, though).

Reputation:
-When you return the rose, if it is the real rose or looks like the real rose, Dayton's trust in you will rise.

-If the rose turns out to be a noticeable fake, Dayton will be very angry and leave angrily, leaving behind the wine bottle anyways.

Rewards:
-Wine Bottle

Conclusion A: Return the Wine Bottle
If you find Rahl and give him back the bottle of wine, he will be very happy and will even give you a complementary bottle of [cheaper] wine and offer you a better deal on his drinks and food.

Reputation:
-Rahl will trust you quite a bit now and will talk to you openly and about many different things.

-Many NPCs in the Inn will trust you and even offer you many of their own quests since they saw how well you handled Rahl's task.

Prerequisite For:
-A Quest that Rahl gives you. In this quest, he wants you to find Dayton's home. This quest is not in the demo.

-Several small quests that can be given to you by the people of the Inn.

Rewards:
-Bottle of Cheap Wine
-Food and drink for a much cheaper price at Rahl's Inn.

Conclusion B: Keep or Sell the Wine Bottle
You have the option of keeping or selling the wine bottle. You may keep it and drink it (maybe later you could replace it or buy a false one) or you could sell it because it is quite an expensive wine bottle.

Reputation:
-If you tell Rahl that you have sold it or that you are keeping it, he will be angry and his trust in you will lower. His friends' trust in you will lower too.

Rewards:
-Expensive Bottle of Wine
or
-Money.
