I decided to add this event quest to introduce a quest chain I've been working on now that we have event quests:
Quest Name: The Aristocrat (Event Quest)
Quest Giver: N/A
PrerequisitesMust have visited the Inn at least once before.
Involved NPCs:The Aristocrat
Bengar the Brute
How to Acquire this Quest:When you walk down one of the streets of Moldan (it can happen in various streets), there is a chance that this event will occur.
Description:While walking to the Inn you see a patrol of guards walking down the street towards you surrounding one man. When they see you in the road, they speak:
Guard:
"It is against the law to block our path, peasant. We ought to throw you in jail."The Aristocrat:
"Wait!" The guards look to the man they are protecting, the Aristocrat. He is a very wealthy Xemna who comes from Moltara.
Guard:
"My Lord?" The Aristocrat:
"Move aside." The Guards move to the side to reveal the Aristocrat and Bengar, his private guard and courier. The Aristocrat walks up to you and scrutinizes you. Throughout this whole event you have the option to speak, but it does not completely change the outcome, just little factors. As the Aristocrat walks towards you, he bumps into one of the guards and drops his staff. He looks at the guard angrily and orders him.
The Aristocrat:
"You fool! Look at what you have done!"The guard, shaking with fear, leans down and reaches out to the staff, but the Aristocrat strikes him and pushes him out of the way.
The Aristocrat:
"Wait! You actually have some worth to me."The Aristocrat points at the player and then at the scepter.
The Aristocrat:
"You! Pick up my scepter. Prove to me that you are something more than a waste of space."The player can choose to pick up the scepter if he wishes. If he does, the Aristocrat will have a higher reputation with you. Either way, you can still get the quest, only the reputation changes.
If the player does not pick it up:
The Aristocrat:
"You refuse to pick it up! For me! Why I should have you flogged, you insolent beggar! But you do show courage, as much as I hate to admit it." If the player does pick it up:
The Aristocrat:
"At least someone knows his place around here. Unlike these blundering buffoons this city calls guards."Either way, this will lead to:
The Aristocrat:
"Hmm, you look like a denizen of this... City. Though it pains me to call it a city. It looks more like a wasteland of rubble to me. The truly great cities are far from here, like Moltara, where I was raised. Have you ever been there? No... A silly question, I already know the answer. But fortunately I do not need someone well-traveled for these tasks. Well? Do you live here, peasant?" You can tell him either yes or no. If you say yes:
The Aristocrat:
"Hmm... And you know your way around here, I suppose... Then, perhaps I have a few small errands for you. I can see that you must be quite hungry, living here in such desolation. As you can see, I am wealthy, and I can pay you for these errands. They are of utmost importance and I cannot do them myself as I am quite busy. Interested?" If you say yes:
"That is good, my friend. I must be going, I have business to take care of. But I will leave Bengar in my stead. He knows what I need done. Farewell." If you say no:
"Hmm... That is unfortunate. You are the first person I have seen in this town with bravery. All of the others jumped out of the way as soon as they glimpsed the guards and I walking down the road. No matter... I suppose there must be another individual in Moldan willing to do some work. And I thought all of you poor folk were all looking for jobs. I suppose if you change your mind you can speak to Bengar. But do not keep me waiting for too long or I may have someone else to replace you. Farewell." And if you say no to the first question he asked, whether or not you live in Moldan:
The Aristocrat:
"I would prefer to have someone who lives here working for me but... You will do. You are brave enough to stand in the path of nobility, after all. However, if you prove to be incompetent, I will replace you."Rewards- Now you can start the quest chain: "A Deal with the Duke"
- Bengar the Brute can now be found in the game, outside of the Inn
Note: Throughout the entire Quest Chain "A Deal with the Duke," the Aristocrat is indirectly present. That is, he speaks through Bengar. You will not see the Aristocrat in the early parts of the quest chain because he is secretive, but Bengar tells you his messages. So you cannot find the Aristocrat again in the demo.
