Quest - Gilvorn Bar Fight Event
« on: July 06, 2008, 03:07:27 PM »
Involved NPCs:
Gilvorn Brightthorn

Prerequisites
Completion of Gilvorn Introduction Event

How to Acquire this Quest:
After completing the Gilvorn Introduction Event, this Event has a 100% chance to trigger upon upon entering the Inn. Occurs anytime the following day. If the player does not enter the Inn at all during the following day (Very unlikely) then it will occur the day after.

Description:
As the player enters the Inn, he/she will find Gilvorn at the front desk with 4 of his men. Gilvorn will say "Then I'm afraid that measures will have to be taken. We've given you more than enough time as it is. I'm afraid you're going to have to say goodbye to your Inn."
Rahl will then stand up on his counter and start a dialogue.

Rahl: "There's gonna be a slight problem fellows. This young man is going to destroy the Inn. And if there's no Inn, then there's no drinks! I'm afraid you're all going to have to go home!"
A grogg will stand up and say: "No drinks!? But I likes drinks!"
Rahl: "Then do something about it you oaf!"
Grogg: "We not let him destroy the drinks! RAWR! (Or something like that)"
All the occupants will start fighting with Gilvorn and his crew. A bar fight erupts and Rahl will exit through the back door. A bottle will fly and hit Gilvorn on the head, knocking him unconscious. He will fall near the player and amidst the chaos, he will be forgotten. 3 Options come up in dialogue form on the screen.

Option A
The player leaves Gilvorn alone and exits the Inn. The event ends

Option B
The player shouts to everyone "Hey you forgot about the Inferno over here!". The occupants will then shove a jar on Gilvorn's head and toss him out of the Inn. Gilvorn will struggle to his feet and say: "I won't forget this! All of you will regret this!" and he will stumble off. The event will then end.

Option C
The player can drag Gilvorn out of the Inn while no one is noticing. As you exit, Gilvorn will recover and look around. He will stumble to his feet and say: "Don't think I owe you anything!" he will mumble "Thanks" and then stumble off. The event will then end.

Rewards
  • Completion of a Gilvorn Quest (4 required to access "Fuel to the Fire" chain)

Option A - Walk Off
NONE

Option B - Side with the occupants
  • -1 Reputation with Gilvorn

Option C - Side with Gilvorn
  • +1 Reputation with Gilvorn

What does this sentence add? It'll will just happen the next time he enters the bar...

Otherwise sounds good, though when the Grogg shouts, it sounds unnatural... I think the 'GET HIM!!' just doesn't fit, he should sort of talk to everyone else in the bar and go like 'what do you think chaps? lets have a fight' or something liek that

Sounds good. Just one thing, wouldn't option A just be something the player can do? What I mean is, wouldn't it not be a dialogue option? Because you said three dialogue options pop up, but wouldn't it be just two? Because the player can just not click either of the options and, using controls, turn around and walk out of the bar, which would be option A.

In the previous event, Gilvorn said he would be back tomorrow. However, the event can still occur in the unlikely chance that the player does not return to the Inn. This chance will of course be low, considering that many important characters for quests can be found at the Inn and the player will probably sleep at the Inn.

Ok I took your suggestion into consideration and changed the dialogue a bit. The Grogg that Rahl talks to is pretty stupid (Although not all Groggs are stupid. Rahl is a pretty smart Grogg himself).

Option A would be something like [DO NOTHING]. Probably the third option...

But that doesn't even need to be an option. To do nothing you can simply... Do nothing.  ;D
In other words, if you don't select either of the options presented to you, you could just walk out of the bar thus doing nothing. Because it feels even more natural if it isn't something you have to select, you can just... Do it. Of course we would have to find a way to explain that the character doesn't always have to do something in every situation, but that wouldn't be too hard.
